Located
at the north end of the island, this quiet community
may be hard to spot. It's mostly residential
and does not really have a defined central business
district like Surf City does. There are only
a couple of restaurants and one store in North
Topsail Beach.
It
is the wildest part of the island. The sound
side is full of broken trees from the effects
of coastal storms and must surely be the way
the island looked before development began.
North
Topsail Beach is a fisherman's paradise. Stump
Sound is full of fish, clams, oysters and shrimp.
New River Inlet, on the north tip of the island
is a favorite place to fish. There is a large,
hard sand parking area for cars, and trucks
don't seem to have any difficulty driving out
to the water's edge.
Canoers
and kayakers love the whole area because of
the many places with easy access to the ocean
and sound.
There
are many beach accesses with parking areas open
for the general public, some with facilities,
but there are some modestly high dunes and bushes
...
If
you're thinking about bringing your boat through
the inlet, you'd better know what you're doing,
the currents are very strong.
